“I’ve never seen a community as open and welcoming as the Novitas crew. When I first started, I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in, but three years later I’ve met some of my closest friends here.”

The Kind of Game We Offer

The basic rule of Kingdoms of Novitas is that if it can be physically done, and done safely, you have the ability to do it. We blur the lines between reality and fantasy, offering a unique experience where your abilities, choices, and courage decide your character’s fate. You’ll be able to spend the XP you earn on gaining fantastical abilities such as wielding magic, but things like fighting, climbing, running, hiding – these are all things that rely on your real-life abilities. Combat is fought at full speed, and it can be very deadly for characters. Don’t worry though: It’s not that hard, and with a little practice, you too will be able to hold your own against marauding ogres or shambling zombies moaning for brains.

Being a player at Kingdoms of Novitas is like being apart of a massive story. One that is still writing itself and captures all of its community within its pages. I love that this game continues to evolve itself to better that community. To create a world that is welcoming to LARP veterans, and new comers alike.”

When was your first game at Novitas?

June 2013!

Did you have experience with LARPing before you started?

Kinda? So before attending Novitas. My friends and I would gather at each other’s houses. We would gather up sticks, and head into the woods. Where we would then practice our sword fighting. We weren’t exactly playing out any certain personas. Or dressed up in any fancy garb, but it was that same feeling of just badasserry, and fellowship that LARPing gives me. So I’m gonna count it haha.

Can you tell us what it’s like to be a player at Kingdoms of Novitas? What do you like about the game?

Being a player at Kingdoms of Novitas is like being apart of a massive story. One that is still writing itself and captures all of its community within its pages. I love that this game continues to evolve itself to better that community. To create a world that is welcoming to LARP veterans, and new comers alike.

What is a tip you would tell someone that is thinking about trying our game?

Don’t over think it! At first, our game can seem overloading. There’s a lot at first glance. Form lore. To rules. To character creation. Don’t let it all overwhelm you. By all means get hype. Just rest assured that when you arrive there will be a whole community of people to help, and support you through the processes of our game. From a welcome speech. To combat tutorials. It will all be covered.

What was one of your favorite in-game moments?

Oh man. Over the 10 years I’ve been coming to this wonderful world there has been so many. I have to say though one of my top moments that has stuck with me through the years is the time I basically got a exorcism. My character had been toying around with some dark forces and ultimately ended up corrupting his spark. What you would call a soul in our game. To the point that my character started going through physical and psychological changes. This was a very intense role playing moment for a whole group of people that had surrounded me to perform a ritual that would cleanse my spark of this corruption. I was laying on a table surrounded by candles and Incense. Some people started chanted. My closest companion applying the ritual ink to my face. It felt like I was in a movie scene. Like at any moment the director was going to yell “Cut! That’s a wrap!” I’ll never forget it.

What is your favorite type of NPC to play? Why?

The crazy old mystic! I don’t know what it is. I just love the role of the wild old person in the woods who actually knows what’s going on but just explains it in riddles. It’s so fun to watch everyone be slightly uncomfortable and slightly intrigued all in one.

What’s your favorite meal from the inn?

Soup. Any kinda soup. I don’t know how they do it, but it’s on par with Olive Garden.

What’s a song on your LARP playlist? Bonus – if you could pick a theme song for your PC, what would it be?

Of Dreams and Dragons by Karpov Kinrade.

PC theme song would be Trouble Is a Friend by Lenka.

What PCs have you played? Let us know who they are in 3 words

Sorien: Charming empathic merchant

Can you tell us about your current PCs?

Sorien Frayrim is a wood elf of many trades and talents. He is a merchant. A mentor. A medium. He likes to help find paths for those who feel lost and misunderstood. His character concept started out with my love for elves in general. Legolas was a heavy inspiration at the start. However I am terrible with a bow and arrow so I had to make some tweaks. Also from day 1 he experienced things that shifted his design. Heavily. I was coming in with a group of friends from high school. A few of us decided that our characters would have connected backstories. My best buddy and I decided we would tie our characters together at our first event introducing them to the game world. We took a walk out into a marsh (we had absolutely no idea where we were going as total noobs lol) and it ended up being the perfect atmosphere. For what would be a defining moment for both our characters for years to come. Unfortunately I can’t disclose what exactly happened in that moment but it completely shifted the direction I took my PC My point being. He ended up nothing like Legolas haha. That no matter how much you think you may have planned out. The world will help you shape out a lot of things that just can’t be experienced otherwise.

What’s one item your character can’t live without?

His basket! My character carries around all his bobbles in a picnic basket. Cause no bag was big enough!

Who is your favorite PC other than yourself? Why?

So I have two PC’s that have kinda followed me along on a lot of different adventures. There’s Odric played by one of my close friends. He’s kinda like my Jiminy Cricket. There has been a handful of times that I would have been in deep trouble without him. He has a way of looking at things from a philosophical perspective that my character just does not pick up on. The other is Thaerion Lady Silvertree, Wildrunner know as Path Finder of Lodge Mossdeep Daughter of Lord Sidhan Celeberyn of clan Silvertree, Niece to esteemed Narene Tvarus, Wife over Wildrunner Draug Tinirtihtinir’druul, Dedicated Healer to The Stranger by High Priestess Lady Morninglow; Highest
Death Caste Knight of Evenandra. If we are going by the full name. And yes those are her titles, rightfully earned. To Sorien, Thaerion is kinda like Avatar The Last Airbenders Uncle Iroh. Always providing esteemed wisdom, but in ways that absolutely frustrate my character internally. Either because she sees right through him. Or is right and he doesn’t want to admit it. Thaerion too bad acted as a guide to me. In and out of game, and that’s what I love about her.
